This is my first year making Christmas ornaments and I have had a lot of fun with it! As I played with different ideas, I eventually settled on nestling rocking-animals into the center of globes. In specific a horse, pig and an elephant. So, why did I choose these animals?
Christmas has always felt magical to me. I think it is the time of year when we all get in touch with our inner child and feel the wonder of the world a little more. We decorate with tiny, twinkling lights, spend time with loved ones and surround ourselves with yummy food! Most importantly, we give gifts. My dad-in-law always says, “give them something you want to give them, not something they want.” I think statement touches on much more than its face value. We are opening up during this magical time of year and sharing part of ourselves through the gifts that we bestow upon others.
I chose these animals because they are playful and fun. My source images were all baby animals caught up in the pure joy of being alive. I could feel their joy just by looking at their pictures. I crafted them into rocking-animals to remind us of when we were younger and completely caught up in the magic and awe of Christmas. My ornaments are reminders to stop cooking, cleaning, serving, or working for a moment during Christmas and play! Live in the moment! Stop what you are doing and play with your kids, and/or dance and laugh, no matter how much work you have to do. I hope my ornaments bring a smile to your face and let you feel the pure joy that these little animals felt while running around like crazy!
